    Aberdeen Maritime Museum

    aboutSectionText

Aberdeen Maritime Museum tells the story of the city's long relationship with the Sea. This award-winning museum is located on the historic Shiprow and incorporates Provost Ross's House, which was built in 1593. The Maritime Museum houses a unique collection covering shipbuilding, fast sailing ships, fishing and port history. It is also the only place in the UK where you can see displays on the North Sea oil and gas industry. Aberdeen Maritime Museum offers visitors a spectacular viewpoint over the busy harbour.

    Nautical, nautical, very nautical

Aberdeen Maritime Museum is quite the attraction. Spread over four floors, with fantastic views from the top, it has just about everything you'd expect and a few things you wouldn't. With authentic marine equipment, a reproduction of a ship's cabin, and even a suit of Samurai armour, it's well worth a visit. Learn about Aberdeen's industrial past and present at this reasonably accessible venue.

    Good access, wobbly lift

Was able to view almost everything in my wheelchair and the displays were widely spaced so I could easily navigate. The lift is a bit scary as it moved before the doors fully closed and jolted about.

    update on accessible parking

Blue badge parking is available in the NCP Shiprow opposite the museum. You have to pay to park there, ( £1.50 per hour even with blue badge) but the spaces are on the ground floor, with good access to them, and easy access within the car park. In the museum you can get a discount for the parking charge if you have stayed more than 3 hours. Aberdeen cobbled roads and paths ( approx 50 yards) to negotiate between the two, but we made it using powered wheelchair and rollator.
