The Adam Smith – the cultural heart of the community Welcome to the Adam Smith Theatre! Since we reopened in September 2023 after our major refurbishment, it’s been thrilling to have audiences and visitors back and re-establish ourselves as the cultural heart of our community. The refurbishment transformed our much-loved old building (celebrating its 125th anniversary this October so look out for more details to come!) and we’re proud as punch to welcome you through our doors – to the theatre, the new Design Suite, fabulous new cafe bar, meeting spaces and function suites. What will you find inside the Adam Smith? Well, we have a beautiful new-look foyer and box office to greet you. The layout and décor of the old bar area has been completely reworked to create The Spinning Top, a place to drop in for coffee, food, evening entertainment or just a drink with friends. The Beveridge Suite has had a complete makeover and is ready for everything from wedding receptions to performances. Next to it is a new multipurpose room, The Exchange, created to host smaller meetings and events. On the lower ground floor is our other function suite, now named The Advantage, which, with its new flooring and mirrored wall and ballet barre, is perfect for everything from dance classes and rehearsals to conferences and concerts. The Design Suite is a completely new facility and is a hive of activity bringing together established and up-and-coming creatives. And last but by no means least, at the heart of the Adam Smith is our wonderful auditorium, with its new décor, seating and technical equipment. Our film programme is back and proving as popular as always. From big hit blockbusters to acclaimed directors, small screen wonders, and epic storytelling, the programme is filled with surprise and delight, for only £5! National Theatre Live is also back!
