Some Issues with Access

This review is for my visit to the Feminine Power exhibition, which is on in Room 35 until 25 September 2022. The exhibition is fantastic and I highly recommend it. However, I was surprised for a world class museum that its access was let down in a few areas.

Brilliant day!

Booked a Blue Badge parking space at the museum. On arrival the security guards had my name and car details on a list. They let me in and directed me to my parking space just in front of the main entrance to the museum. On entering the museum, they had a wheelchair with my name on it all ready for me. Everyone was so friendly and helpful and I got the impression that nothing would have been too much for them. My parking space was booked for the whole of the afternoon and I was able to enjoy the Beckett exhibition without worrying about time. It was the most relaxed visit to a museum I have had in years. The museum staff spoke to me and my 'carer' equally. I will certainly be visiting the museum again as it was so easy to book a space and all the staff were so helpful.

Easy booking

Not visited yet but wanted to let you know how easy it is to book tickets, BB parking and wheelchair loan. Just one phone call and a very helpful person at the other end. Can't wait to visit the Becket exhibition knowing that I can park and get around the museum. I live outside London and didn't want to risk driving up to London after having purchased tickets to find that I cannot get parking close by or get around. The V&A should take note!!

Disabled Access Information for British Museum

disabledAccessText

The British Museum welcomes Deaf and disabled visitors. Entrances There are two entrances to the Museum. The front entrance on Great Russell Street has level access via self-operable platform lifts on either side of the front steps. The rear entrance on Montague Place has level access into the building and a lift to access all floors. There is a visitor search area before you get to front entrance. If, due to your access needs, you would prefer to avoid the tent - please speak to security staff and you may be able to bypass it. Your bags may still be searched. Security processes are subject to change. Level access There is level access throughout most of the galleries and all exhibition spaces. The Museum is housed in an old, listed building so level access is often via standard or platform lifts. There may be times when galleries are closed which impacts on lift availability. Please check the website before visiting to ensure there is level access to the gallery you wish to visit. For more information about our services, facilities and events including object handling, a touch tour of our Egyptian Sculpture Gallery, BSL, live subtitled and audio described events and our free audio description and BSL guides - please go to our website or contact access@britishmuseum.org
