    Great Cinema for quadriplegic

Searching for a good Edinburgh cinema venue to visit with quadriplegic father. From access to road to back of the IMAX (the screen we visited) no steps entirely one level and easy to access in a wheel chair. The screen slopes down from ground level to -1 (lower ground level) so is ideal for disabled access. See included photos of viewing place at the IMAX screen - wheelchair gets excellent view of the screen again with plenty of space to manoeuvre.

Disabled seating at the front, so close to the screen it hurts

There are one or two screens where this is not the case, but since the recent refurbishment, I have had the experience of using the screens where the front row is so close to the screen that I am looking up the way. By the end of the movie, my neck was in a lot of pain. The only solutions that I have found is to use a travel pillow to support my neck but it is still uncomfortable. If you are able to transfer into a seat in the front row, the seats do recline but my companions assure me that this isn’t comfortable either. The new look foyer and toilets are great though.

    Progress?!

Overall the cinema offers completely step free access to all their screens. However, there a few screens where it is not possible to sit next to whoever you come with. Along with this wheelchair spaces are not well thought out in terms of being next to steps and leaving small amounts of manoeuvring room. There is one disabled toilet that is in the main hall and easy to get to. The other disabled toilet is inside the first door to the male bathrooms and isn’t easy for a solo wheelchair user to get into and isn’t ideal for female users.

Screens 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, and 11 have Wheelchair Access Boxes at the back of the screen allowing our wheelchair using guests to experience their films from an improved viewing position. Screen 1 (IMAX) and Screen 7 wheelchair seating is at level-access (Wheelchair seating is at the back of Screen 1 and the middle level of Screen 7). Our Access Boxes are ideal for any guest who would like a step-free path to their seat as many back rows in our screens (accessible via lift) can be accessed without having to descend steps. There are screen layouts at our till points and our staff can assist in finding the most comfortable seat for you. Fountain Park has a wide automatic entrance door. Cineworld has two wide automatic doors at the entrance of our foyer. Our foyer and concessions area is spacious and we have a lower wheelchair accessible till point at our concessions counter. Our Starbucks café is assessible via a standard lift (with grab bars). The café has an accessible counter to order and collect drinks.

    Toilets features at Cineworld Edinburgh

We have two step-free accessible toilets on our ground floor. The doors are wide enough for wheelchairs. The staff ticket-check-point is nearby so there will be a member of our team close-by to offer assistance if needed. We have an upstairs accessible toilet for guests using our Wheelchair Access Boxes which is accessed via a platform lift. It has the same features as the downstairs accessible toilets. Our Starbucks café has an accessible toilet. This is accessed via a pin-pad locked door and at the end of a short corridor. To return to the café the door is opened by pressing a button on the left wall while pulling open the handle of the door. All of our accessible toilets have grab rails and emergency pull cords.
