Enjoy a visit to the City Art Centre, a main Edinburgh art gallery with one of the best collections of Scottish art. We show interesting exhibitions from our own collections and from all over the world. We can also tempt you with an attractive shop located on the ground floor. The City Art Centre has a busy programme of exhibitions which change regularly to suit the interests of our visitors. An escalator and lift help you move around six floors, and you can be refreshed by sampling the menus in the café, or buy art books, cards, handbags and jewellery from our ground floor shop. The City Art Centre is conveniently placed near to the Waverley rail station in the city centre. We also offer regular spotlight tours and an also take pre-bookings for tours to suit groups.

Edinburgh Science Festival – for young and old!

The Euan’s Guide team was invited to the launch of the 2025 Science Festival “Spaceship Earth” at the City Art Centre, which is opposite Waverley Train Station. A smooth entrance (people were on hand to open the doors - but they are power assisted doors) – and even floors to access each level – you can see where the venue has made modifications to help people in wheel/power chairs. We had an enjoyable evening and as part of Edinburgh Science’s “Lates” night we got to enjoy the activities normally reserved for kids of varying ages. The venue has a spacious and modern feel inside, although it is still a 125 year old building.

Excellent venue, access and services

The City Arts Gallery is a utilised venue for events, exhibitions and during the EIF as a venue. It’s directly across the road from the Market Street entrance and exit to Waverley Station, the only bus route directly is a Lothian buses service 6. The venue is spacious, fully appointed access with power assist doors a wide lift and adequate a fully provisioned toilets. Although I was there for an event, cannot praise the staff highly enough, helpful and the awareness of how they responded to our different mobility and assistance needs was terrific.

We welcome disabled visitors. If you require assistance please ask a member of staff, who will be happy to help. Although we have no car park, it is possible to drop off outside the building. We have a power assisted front door and a level entrance. All floors are fully accessible by a large lift. We have accessible toilets and the cafe and shop are fully accessible- via a sloped floor.
