Discovery Walk celebrates the inspiring individuals linked with Dundee who were behind some of the world’s most groundbreaking discoveries. The first phase of Discovery Walk was formally unveiled on 6 April 2016. It comprises plaques honouring philanthropist Mary Ann Baxter; biomedical pioneer Professor Geoffrey Dutton; scientist and codebreaker Sir Alfred Ewing; gynaecologist Professor Margaret Fairlie; cartoonist and comic editor R D Low; radiologist Dr James Riley; electronic engineers Professor Walter Spear and Professor Peter Le Comber; philosopher and mathematician Sir D’Arcy Thompson, and social reformer Mary Lily Walker. Phase Two, due to be unveiled in the Spring of 2018, will honour postage stamp pioneer James Chalmers; electrical scientist James Bowman Lindsay; inventor and instrument maker George Lowden; x-ray pioneer Dr George Pirie, and doctor and health reformer Thomas Maclagan.
