Dobbies Garden World

We had a family member in the nearby neuro rehab facility at the QEUH for a long term stay. We were struggling for things to do during visits that were wheelchair friendly. We decided on breaking loose from the hospital grounds on a sunny day and visit Dobbies. It is a 20 or so minute walk from the facility - pavements are generally okay. All crossing points bar one has a lower kerb. On the walk back there is part of the pavement that is on an incline. Might not be ideal for those who aren't particularly fit. Dobbies itself is very spacious and easy to manoeuvre. Aisles are wide, ideal for a larger chair. This branch also has Fish Keeper store. This part of the store is also easy to manoeuvre, and being able to look at the tropical fish provided a relaxing break from the hospital. Large outside area again easy to manouvre. We didn't visit the cafe or the toilets. We visited several times during our hospital stay, worth the walk! Being able to smell the fresh flowers, and watch the tropical fish made it a welcome escape from the monotony of the hospital ward.

Excellent space for the disabled to manoeuvre around the aisles. The restaurant is always busy and that can be a slight problem at times but nothing that cannot be solved. Disabled toilets are fabulous with plenty of room and everything at the right height. It is a pleasure to walk around and the outdoor space is terrific for wheelchair etc.

The Garden Centre has wheelchairs available at the door for those who do not have their own chairs. The Garden Centre has wide aisles which makes for easy access. In the restaurant itself tables are positioned to allow wheelchairs access to the majority of tables. There is a great choice of food available from breakfast to snacks and cakes to main meals.
