    Drake Music Scotland

    aboutSectionText

Drake Music Scotland is the nation’s leading arts organisation providing music making opportunities with and for disabled musicians and composers. Our expertise in inclusive music technology and specialist teaching methods support people of all ages and a wide range of abilities to play, learn and compose music independently. Developing out of the Drake Research Project founded in England by Adele Drake in 1988, Drake Music Scotland became a separate charitable organisation (Registered Scottish Charity No. SC026908) in 1997 and since then has worked with over 13,000 children and adults across Scotland. More about our history. Our biggest achievements to date include setting up Scotland’s first disabled youth orchestra, the Digital Orchestra, in 2016; All Join In our flagship education programme for special and mainstream schools; implementation of our acclaimed training and CPD programme; our innovative developments in technology, and the introduction of Figurenotes.

The building that we are in is called 'SPACE' and is run by Places for People. There are several arts organisations based there including Drake Music Scotland. You arrive at SPACE via the car park at the front of the building. There are 2 accessible parking spaces at the front right hand side of the building. There are also lots of other parking spaces in the car park. There are 4 Steps up to the building and also a built in ramp to the main entrance. The buzzer to get into the building is to the right of the entrance, the reception then activates automatic double doors. Visitors are required to sign in. Please do email or call us to arrange a visit as we are often busy out and about running projects so aren't set up for a drop in visit. The reception let Drake Music Scotland staff know who then meet visitors and show them to our ground-floor office and 2 music rooms down the corridor. The remainder of the doors are not automatic but usually are left open. There is an accessible toilet and male and toilets opposite Drake Music Scotland's office. The fire exit is located to the rear of the building- this is Drake Music Scotland's main fire exit.
