At the foot of a volcano in the historic city of Edinburgh lies Dynamic Earth, the UK’s leading earth science centre and planetarium . Our immersive, interactive and impactful visitor experience takes you on a journey through the story of our extraordinary planet, from beginning to mend. Be there at the moment of the Big Bang, rocket through the universe billions of times faster than the speed of light, feel the effects of a real volcano, get closer to understanding the polar ice caps by touching our iceberg, stare in wonder at the Aurora Borealis, watch powerful glaciers carve out entire continents, dive to the dark depths of the ocean, and avoid rainstorms in our tropical rainforest. All of this, plus our incredible planetarium, and an ever-changing schedule of activities and events makes Dynamic Earth Edinburgh’s must-visit attraction.

    Astronomical Access

I visited this venue along with other members of Euan's Guide to check out the new Planetarium and the 'Discover the Deep' gallery. I loved how immersive and accessible it all was; it was brilliant to be able to have such a great view of everything in my powerchair. Sometimes it's difficult for me to get close enough to the interactive parts of exhibitions so it was really good to be able to access these in my powerchair here. The flexible speakers at an accessible height which enable you to listen to the underwater sounds of the ocean, and how I could get within touching distance of the iceberg were particularly impressive for me. In the Rainforest Gallery you can experience a thunderstorm; I also learned how best to escape a crocodile if I ever encounter one! The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful and helped to make the galleries what they are; amazing experiences which leave you considering our place in the universe, our impact upon it and our planet.

Travel through time in a unique way

In this fully immersive experience, travel through time and learn about evolution, the changes that the earth has gone through and visit the planetarium to look at the sky. Dynamic Earth have put a lot of thought into accessibility and it makes the experience available to many. From spacious toilets to lifts, and thoughtfully placed parking spaces. The staff are super friendly and helpful, sharing their knowledge happily. We had an incredible time, learned loads and had fun interacting with joysticks, making plans on touchscreens and interacting with displays. A must see for adults and children!

We endeavour to ensure that our facilities throughout the attraction are as inclusive to everyone as possible. Dynamic Earth is fully wheelchair accessible, with ramp access up to the entrance of the building and lifts throughout to navigate through the exhibition, and to gain access to and from the car park. Wheelchair access to the car park is via the internal lifts only. Please be aware these lifts are operational only during opening hours. For people with visual impairments additional information about the exhibits is available through audio guides. For people with hearing impairments, transcripts are available in English. We advise contacting us ahead of your visit via enquiries@dynamicearth.org.uk to discuss any other adaptations we may be able to make. For people with sensory needs, we have sensory bags, sensory maps, now and next cards and ear defenders. We permit assistance dogs in all areas of the attraction, however we would advise that some of the galleries have loud noises and flashing lights within them.
