    Another fabulous inclusive experience

I brought 2 separate groups of Y6 children with a wide range of SEND as part of their end of Y6 celebration and to give them an outdoor and adventurous experience. We come back to Ghyll Head year after year as we know that we can be guaranteed a high quality and exciting experience for all our children regardless of their disability. The team go out of their way to ensure that they have the imagination, experience and equipment to make activities accessible. We had a fabulous week with the children feeling extremely proud of themselves and parents overwhelmed by what they had achieved. The highlight of my teaching year.

    Fantastic as ever

We return to Ghyll Head every year with a group of children with SEND. The bungalow provides us with a safe, totally adapted place for our children to stay- often it’s the first time away from home. All the staff go out of their way to give our children an incredible experience with a whole range of activities both on and off the site. Our parents value this opportunity as much as their children. They are overwhelmed by the achievements they make while they are here. Food is excellent with clean plates every night thanks to the fantastic chef.

To help your stay be more comfortable in the bungalow we have 2 mobile hoists, a profiling bed, shower table and adapted mini bus. Access is level into and around the bungalow with access paths around the site. The design of the build was for visitors with mobility difficulties so doors are wide and 2 bathrooms are wet rooms. There is a rail at the ramped door entrance. There are grab rails in the bathrooms and a shower tray. We have loo adapted equipment and a selection of slings for use with the hoists but guests ideally should bring their own. There is a games room and separate meeting space. At the boat house we have an access path with a rail and changing room and shower facility ideal if cold after a lake session. We have a lift to access all floors and a manual and lake side lift to access any boat on the water. Loop slings needed. We have accessible activities and can offer zip wire and climbing on site, canoeing, sailing, archery and orienteering. Off site we can offer Cathedral cavern exploration, Yordas cave trip, local walks and Grizedale Forest orienteering. We have an adapted mini bus should you need this for activities. We have symbols and signs that can support communication needs and our staff are trained and experienced to work with guests that have additional needs.
