    aboutSectionText

Homelands Trust-Fife SCIO (SC047615) is an independent Scottish charity, set up in 1998 to carry out the wishes of Miss Isobel Paxton of Lundin Links. She bequeathed her estate, “Homelands”, to charity to establish and maintain a facility to enable people affected by a range of disabling conditions to have a holiday or a break from living daily with a disability, long-term condition or life-limiting illness. There are nine self-catering lodges set in the peaceful grounds of Homelands, and with magnificent views over Lundin Golf Course across the Firth of Forth to the Lothians. There is also a drop-in community centre, called the Paxton Centre. It has five therapy/ general purpose rooms, a kitchen area, open plan reception, disabled toilet facilities, and a handyman’s/ gardener’s storage area.

    Holiday Celebrations

A brilliantly designed and beautifully maintained facility for the disabled to enjoy a holiday. We rented Drummochy lodge with four large bedrooms and three bathrooms , spacious living room and kitchen . It was superbly equipped and comfortable for seven adults. My son a wheelchair user enjoyed the extra wide doorways and spacious ground floor with easy access to a comfortable garden. We celebrated my husbands 80th birthday with an additional 10 guests in comfort. Staff could not be more helpful and the area is superb, local shops in easy walking distance, Largo Harbour , pubs , cafes and beaches easily accessible.

    Refreshing break

We stayed in Massney lodge which is one of the original lodges built around 11 years ago approximately. It has a fabulous view over the golf course to the beach, so lots of entertainment watching diving sea birds, marine vessels, and people on the golf course. The lodge is beginning to show its age, though has been carefully maintained by the Trust. The upstairs bedroom was very hot because of the sun and the velux windows, even with the blinds down. It is well equipped with mobility aids, and more can be provided if requested. The staff are very kind and welcoming and deal with any issues promptly and courteously. We had lunch at the Paxton Centre on Monday and Tuesday, when the cafe is open, and had delicious soup, toasties and home baking. The volunteers there were very helpful and kind too. Local shops, a 3 minute walk away, provide the essentials and some can deliver.

    Well designed, accessible accommodation

After a succession of disastrous family Christmases, we booked a lodge for 8 here. It was spacious so the wheelchair user could get around even while the grandchildren were happily playing on the floor. The place was very comfy, suited us well and staff helped accommodate our particular needs. The only things that weren't quite right were VERY minor - a lack of towel rail by the upstairs sink; no small microwaveable containers; the acoustics in the living room when filled with boisterous children. What made it special? That 7 people, including several neurodivergent ones, spent a week in close quarters and were still friends at the end!
