Lindores Abbey Distillery is a newly built whisky producing distillery. We are just entering our third year and so will be delighted when our spirit officially becomes whisky in December 2020. Lindores Abbey is famous as the spiritual home of Scotch whisky and our unique tours are a wonderful mixture of distillation and history. We are not only a whisky distillery but a hospitality venue, that hosts weddings, corporate dinners, themed dinners, band nights and more. We have a bar, self service cafe and shop on site and are open all day until 4pm. The bar is often open on a Friday evening especially when we are lucky enough to be hosting the Strathearn fish and chip van! We are a small family run business and able to respond swiftly to bespoke package requests.

Old history in a new distillery

My son-in-law treated me to an afternoon (2pm) tour. We were about a dozen in total. The history goes back centuries and explains the skills monks brought to the area. I walk very slowly with a stick, but the group waited for me to arrive (connecting roads were flooded that day, so we took a back road advised by distillery staff to get there). Blue badge parking has spaces closest to the visitor entrance. I was offered a choice of lift or wide stairs with a handrail and I chose (and prefer) the latter. Our guide, Helen, was very good at setting a sensible pace throughout. We enjoyed a taste of both aqua vitae and a single malt. A good hour in good company, and all for £12.50.

Accessible whisky distillery

This is a brand new whisky distillery that opened at the end of 2017. This distillery is only a short 15 minute walk from where I live so it is somewhere I try to visit often when I get the chance. It has a lovely cafe, gift shop, visitors centre and it’s own legacy bar as well. It is a beautiful distillery in a beautiful location. They often hold special events such as Burns supper, Christmas parties, Halloween banquets etc and have facilities to offer privately booked parties/functions as well. You can book distillery tours to see how the whisky is distilled and stores and they offer tasting sessions as well. It is fully accessible as well.

We have two purpose built accessible toilets, one at each end of the building and both with flat floor access, wide doors and turning space within the room, emergency alerts, rails and height aware basins etc..
