The museum tells the story of London's colourful canals, their people, cargoes, horses and trade. It is housed in a former ice warehouse built in the 1860s to store ice imported from Norway. You can peer down into a huge ice well and discover the Victorian ice trade as well the inland waterways.

Interesting & fun with lots to do!

Great & interesting museum in the heart of London. Accessible to all - you can tell that much thought has been put into exhibitions, displays and how information is presented. Staff very helpful & enthusiastic.

A bygone age

The Canal Museum really does understand accessibility and goes the 'extra mile' - loved the Braille panels, the accessible information books, and the attention to detail for making a wheelchair user's visit inclusive.

The museum is fully accessible, with lift access to all public areas and an accessible lavatory on the ground floor. We have subtitles and transcripts for the hearing a impaired, a special audio tour for the visually a impaired, handrails, tactile and Braille signage, and a virtual tour of the tiny narrow boat cabin.
