Merchants House

Went to this venue for a candlelight concert. The tickets said wheelchair accessible but when we got there the security staff on the door said I would have to transfer from my wheelchair to another chair. First though I had to negotiate onto a platform lift positioned against the wall in a very tight space so you practically had to get on it sideways! Once that takes you up to the first level you then have to transfer to a tiny wheelchair which I managed to do only with the help of security guy and my wife. Then they called the lift that is on the landing. The doors opened to reveal the world’s narrowest lift! If you were really fat there is no way you could get in it. Went to the next level where security guy had kindly brought my chair too and transferred again. Concert was lovely but had to do the same system again to get back to ground level. Whilst the actual venue’s website does explain the difficulties, company selling tickets for events do not. So please be aware if visiting this lovely old venue.
