Paradise Green run two venues at the heart and soul of the largest theatre festival in the world. We are a not-for-profit organisation, run almost entirely by volunteers which aims to give opportunities for people to take part in all aspects of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, including venue staff, performers and audiences. Paradise in Augustines is a lively and popular venue with a reputation for award-winning theatre, run by Paradise Green since 1998. Each August, Augustine United Church is transformed from a working church into two unique performance spaces. The Sanctuary, located in the Church's main hall, is a large and beautiful theatre space, and downstairs you'll find our versatile Studio, both seating over 100 people.

The Classic Debate.

This performance of the re-interpretation of Medea was a forum theatre musical and it was quite an experience. I loved the interaction between performers and the audience which gave it a fresh, intimate feel; we were greeted by one of the cast who left the stage in characteras we came in. It was a mad quest through the breakdown of a relationship, its consequences, an analysis of our culture and its parallels with Ancient Greece and Euripides' play. By portraying the play in this format it also faced you with our collective responsibility for the way women and children are treated in society. The performers' voices were really great, the compositions were both funny and moving and I loved the juxtaposition throughout of humour and sadness. The venue staff member who greeted me also made us feel very welcome.

Situated on George IV Bridge, Augustines is just seconds from the Royal Mile. There are three shallow steps outside the building and a ramp is available for wheelchair users upon request. Once inside, there is step-free access to both spaces. The Sanctuary is located on the ground floor level. The Studio is located one floor below, with lift access.
