    Accessibility

First thing, all of the staff that we encountered at the hotel in reception, housekeeping in the restaurant were absolutely lovely and couldn’t have been more accommodating. I’ve recently become a wheelchair user after using a stick for many years so viewed things in a much different way as I would’ve done this time last year. We were fortunate enough to stay in a room which was designed with wheelchair access in mind. I use my wheelchair to travel, and then stand up to use a Zimmer frame to take approximately 3 to 4 steps and then sit back down in my wheelchair. With this the bed was far too low for me to get up from independently and my husband had to lift me up onto my frame and then help me down again to the bed as it was so low. The bed in the hotel room was really comfortable and again the lights were set a little bit lower down so easier to access. There is no air-conditioning in the room which is made clear in the details when booking and a fan was available which did help although the room was pretty hot, and it did get a little uncomfortable. The wet room is lovely and very clean. The pressure in the shower was really low, and so the showerhead had to be moved down. If I’ve been in the room on my own, I would not of been able to do this independently as it was set so high up. The shower seat weight limit was 25 stone. The toilet was slightly higher than a normal toilet, but I wouldn’t have been able to get up from the toilet, but for the fact we had taken my raised toilet seat with us. The mirrors were set lower down so could easily be seen using the wheelchair and the sinks in the bathroom are lower down. The room itself was immaculate. One thing I did notice was that the floor in the wet room while textured was not as textured as the one we had at home, so it made it slightly slippery. Leading out of the hotel, there is a ramp making it easy to manoeuvre. However, at the bottom of the ramp there a cracked flags which if you were going down independently and had not seen could be dangerous if your wheels got caught, the staff in the attached restaurant are absolutely lovely and couldn’t have been more accommodating. For a budget room at £160 for the night, height of summer and just outside London the room was really good value.
