Situated on the historic site of Hendon's London Aerodrome in Colindale, our North London Museum, is one of two sites belonging to the U.K's only national museum that tells the story of the Royal Air Force through its people and collections. Our collections in London include some very early aircraft designs to the latest modern day jets and military aircraft.

Fun, Fascinating, Accessible. A Detailed Review of Hanger 1

This review is of Hanger 1 only. I have previously written a review of the RAF Museum and if you are wanting a more general overview please read that. The museum is on a large site and there are 6 large hangers (buildings) to explore. Hanger 1 is the first building on the site and where you enter the museum. I'm planning over time to cover all the hanger buildings in separate review. The R.A.F. Museum has an impressive collection of aircraft from 1914 to the present day. The museum site is very accessible and there is a Changing Places toilet.

Fabulous, Very Accessible and a Changing Places Toilet

The R.A.F. Museum has an impressive display of aircraft from 1914 to the present day. The planes are the original vehicles and are enormous, they are not scaled down models, and are really spectacular. The museum is on a large site and there are 6 large hangers (buildings) to explore. The site is very accessible, step free and there are plenty of accessible toilets including a Changing Places toilet. It's welcoming and family friendly. Plenty to see during your day out.

The Royal Air Force Museum London offers a wide range of facilities for visitors who require additional assistance during the course of their visit. General access The Museum has step-free access around the site. All hangars offer the following: Wide aisles, enabling access for wheelchairs and pushchairs Lifts to upper levels Seating for breaks during your visit Free wi-fi is available All exhibitions offer: Large print guides are available in our new exhibitions in Hangar 1 and 6 All the films in Hangar 1 and 6 have subtitles All audio handsets in Hangar 1 and 6 have an integrated hearing loop, switch hearing aid to T position Exhibitions in Hangars 1 and 6 include tactile models. ‘RAF Stories’ in Hangar 1 also includes smells and sounds, bringing the exhibits to life RAF Museum Tours: When you see an icon of a mobile device, enter the text into your browser to access display information. For example: rafm.tours/spitfire The Museum has a number of manual wheelchairs available free of charge. They can be pre-booked by calling 020 8358 4818 or e-mailing reception@rafmuseum.org. The Museum also has three Alinkers available. The Alinker is a non-motorised walking-bike without pedals. The Museum has Quiet Rooms available on request in Hangars 1,3 and 6 for the visitors that suffer from sensory overload. Free information packs, guides and trials for visitors with autism can be downloaded from website. All galleries have wide aisles, allowing access for wheelchairs, lifts to the Museum's upper floors, seating for breaks during visit and disabled toilet and baby changing facilities.

Toilets features at Royal Air Force Museum London

All Museum's hangars have accessible toilets. All have baby changing facilities except Hangar 2 where the fully accessible Changing Places Toilet is located. Features that this Changing Places Toilet offers include: a height adjustable adult-sized changing bench a full coverage hoist system adequate space in the changing area for a disabled person and up to two carers centrally placed toilet with room either side mobile screen to allow privacy wide tear off paper dispenser large waste bin for disposable pads grab rails and alarm cord basin with thermostatic mixer taps standard height toilet with flush lever non-slip floor
