St Mary's Guildhall, located in the city's historic Cathedral Quarter, astonishingly escaped bombing raids during the Second World War. As one of the only remaining medieval buildings, it still stands as a testament to medieval Coventry's power and wealth. The Guildhall is home to the magnificent Coventry Tapestry, which along with its spectacular interiors, provides a glimpse into the city's fascinating history.

Nice historic visit

We visited St Mary’s Guildhall and were very impressed by the work done on this building. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable and even though its an historic building they had added lifts to get up to the main room and down to the cafe as well as a very impressive platform lift to get into the room with an video introduction. Some of the rooms were up some stairs but we could see all around them on a panorama photo tour on tablets we were given at the beginning. There were staff throughout the building and they gave us lots of information about the building and its history. They also told us about the work done on the building recently. The information they have around was very interesting and the tablets also had a guided tour and the photo tour of all of the rooms. They have accessible toilets that were very nice and well kept. We parked in a main city car park but there did seem to be disabled parking bays around the building and it is in the centre of the city.

Disabled Access Information for St Mary's Guildhall

There is step free and level access to most rooms in St Mary's Guildhall. A new stair lift has been put into the medieval kitchen to allow access to the Muniment Room, where the welcome video plays. This is also captioned. There is also a lift from the kitchen to the Great Hall, and a ramp added to the entrance of the Old Council Chamber. There has been a new spiral staircase added to the Great Hall, to allow easier access to the Armoury, however there is no step free access to these rooms. We do provide digital tours which include a captioned guided tour and a 360 degree photograph tour of every room, allowing people to interact with the interpretation of the rooms without needing to access them. We also have a hearing loop installed at reception. There is an accessible toilet at reception, with fully level access. There is also a lift down into Tales of Tea, the cafe in the undercroft of the Guildhall. There is seating available around the site.
