Open this treasure chest of maritime heritage and you will find an unparalleled collection of wonders gathered over centuries by Leith’s mariners. You can admire four portraits by Sir Henry Raeburn, a French Tricolour captured at the Battle of Trafalgar, a 200 year-old whaling harpoon as well as a fleet of historic ship models.

    Approach to site The main entrance to the house is up three wide, even, stone steps. There is also a ramped side entrance (gradient of 1:10, lower section at 1:12). Viewing is by guided tour only. Please telephone in advance to arrange this on 0131 554 3289. Monument The ground floor is level. There is access to the Captains’ room and a guide to the collections for those unable to access the first floor. There is a video display in the vaults, reached by nine, stone steps with handrail. The first floor has an impressive collection display and is accessed by a large carpeted staircase with 22 even steps and handrails.
