Waddesdon Manor is a French Renaissance-style chateau built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in 1874 to entertain the fashionable world and to house his collection of fine art. We're continuing the tradition today of entertainment and hospitality with events celebrating food and wine, and opportunities for you to explore our history, collections and gardens through changing exhibitions and special interest days. Step back in time in the Victorian style gardens, gaze at flamboyant colours on the parterre amid the ornate fountains and statuary. Unearth the rare and exotic birds housed in the roccoco style Aviary found in the heart of the gardens or you can spend a fun filled day with the family, be an adventurer in the woodland playground which winds through the trees.

A mobility assistance vehicle is available to transport visitors with mobility requirements directly to the House or restaurant. The vehicle has a hydraulic-powered lift for full wheelchair access. Most parts of the garden are accessible. There are graveled areas immediately in front of the House, on the parterre, and also around the Aviary and steep and uneven paths on the way to the Stables Most areas of the House are accessible to wheelchair users with use of an elevator. However, there is limited access to some parts.

Waddesdon's private car park has a large Blue Badge parking area and a limited mobility parking area. The path to the ticketing facility is flat. Our shuttle buses are accessible with a fold-out ramp, and they are “kneeling” buses to lower the entrance height. Each bus has a dedicated area for a wheelchair user.

Toilets features at Waddesdon Manor

We have an accessible toilet in the House, and this is accessed via the tunnel to the basement level, by the Manor Shop Courtyard. There is an accessible toilet in The Stables Courtyard, adjacent to the ladies' toilet. There are no steps to access these and grab rails are located in both. Our Changing Places facility is on the ground floor inside the House, accessed via the Manor Shop.
