    Farm in the city!

There are cobbles and paths with ‘mulch’ with some sloping sections. But the farm have really tried to make it as accessible as possible inc the enclosures for Guinea pigs which had step free access. We found accessibility ok but we had a buggy. The tractor near the front entrance was a definite favourite and we could lift our child onto the seat.

Not ok for standard wheelchair for full access

Not really suitable for standard wheelchairs, my client has a 4x4 chair that managed the slope that has slights steps on it but it wouldn’t work in a normal chair. Some areas aren’t accessible as he would need to turn round to come back the wrong way in the one way system as there were stairs at the far end.

    Can Do Edinburgh College Visit

Gorgie Farm Review Students from the Entry to Learning Level 2 course at Edinburgh College visited Gorgie farm as part of their Leonard Cheshire Can Do community review project. We had a tour round the farm from the very friendly and knowledgeable Francis. She explained to us facts about each animal and what uses they have on the farm. We then had hands on experience with some of the animals where we got to touch a turtle, a chinchilla, a guineapig and a bearded dragon lizard! Overall we gave it 4.5 out of 5 and would definitely recommend a visit! Comments from the class were; “Its Interesting to see animals and to be able to touch and find out about them” “The staff were really nice and the animals were friendly!” “Be prepared for the smell!!”

    disabledAccessText

Disabled toilets [2/7], access to all areas if a longer way round in some cases. New parts all should be wheelchair accessible - wide paths etc. New ramp to wildlife garden area, inaccessible up to now. Cafe accesible via side entrance- layout adaptable. Parking onsite, limited but only a likely to be an issue at peak times/ days. Warn us and we'll reserve a space. Improvement limited by nature of the site and finances [cobblestones the main hindrance] but staff happy to lend a hand on request.
