Lady Lever Art Gallery houses one of the UK’s finest collections of fine and decorative art. It has the best collection of Wedgwood jasperware anywhere in the world and its collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings is internationally renowned. The gallery was founded by William Hesketh Lever (1851-1925) and is dedicated to the memory of his wife Elizabeth. The gallery still contains the best of his personal art collection.

There are frequent train services from Liverpool Lime Street Station. You can find out more on our website https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/lady-lever-artgallery#section--getting-here - There are two accessible on-street car parking spaces directly outside the gallery. However, there are no safety zones available - At the front of the building, you will see a large pink sign indicating the main entrance is to the left of the gallery. Arriving at the main entrance there are a flight of nine steps, with a ramp to the right. There are glass and metal handrails located on each side of the ramp and stairs. Outside the main door, there are automatic doors which open using a touchpad which leads to the lobby area. The touch pad to leave the building is on the end of the handrails - There is a basement entrance at the front of the building facing the fountain. This is step free and leads to the shop, cafe, toilets, family activity rooms and lift GENERAL FACILITIES/SERVICES - Guide dogs are welcome. If you plan to visit with an assistance animal other than an assistance dog, please get in touch seven days prior to your visit to discuss your request with us so we may best accommodate your visit where reasonably practicable - We have two manual wheelchairs available to use from the information desk at the main entrance - We have guided highlight tours available in the Lady Lever. These do not take place every day. If you would like to know further information about our guided tours or access do contact the gallery - There are free lockers and cloakroom area next to the information desk. The lockers are provided at a range of heights. We ask that visitors avoid bringing large bags into the galleries KEY FACILITIES ON LOWER GROUND FLOOR/BASEMENT - There is a lift that has access to the basement located in the main hall (room 10). You can also enter the basement through the ramp located at the front of the building or you can enter using two staircases located at the main entrance lobby and landing area. There are 18 steps with a small landing point in between - Cafe - Shop - please note this space is small and has a limited access route - Activity rooms - Toilets - located at the back of the cafe. Please note the black door is automatic and opens towards you when leaving the toilet area. There is a men’s and women’s toilet and one accessible toilet which also contains the baby changing facility. The men's toilets has three steps leading to the urinals and the ambulant mobility toilet - The accessible toilet on this floor is 1970mm in width and 2830mm in length with a stoma shelf. There is no Changing Places facility at the Lady Lever Art Gallery. Visit the Changing Places website for details of the closest facility KEY FACILITIES ON GROUND FLOOR - Lift to the basement - Galleries - Information desk - Bench style seating - Toilets and cloakroom - located within Room 27. You will find men’s and women’s toilets here. There are ambulant mobility toilets within both women’s toilets. There are three sinks provided within the women’s toilets at two different heights. The ground floor and basement standard toilets have sinks with twist style taps GALLERY COLLECTIONS Most of the information and collections at the Lady Lever Art Gallery are text and visual based. We also offer some audio information (which is transcribed) for some of the objects and artworks within the collections. Each room within the gallery has an allocated number. There are further details about the galleries and a room guide on our website https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/lady-lever-art-gallery/room-guide -The lift is located in the main hall (room 10) of the gallery. There are audio and visual indicators to show you which floor you are on. The lift measures 1070mm in width and 2100mm in length. The lift can be used by either a manual or electric wheelchair with one accompanying passenger - Be aware that there are hard floors and high ceilings throughout the galleries which can cause footsteps and voices to echo and amplify. Noise can increase during times of heavy rainfall. There are humidifiers within all these galleries which give a low single tonal ‘hum’. If you have noise reduction headphones or ear buds, it may be useful to bring them ACCESS TO BALCONIES IN MAIN HALL - The balconies above the main hall can be reached by the stairs located in the main hall - For the east balcony, there are 23 steps with two small landing spaces between. There is a single handrail to help support you. Please note the stairway is narrow and the steps are steep. You will find a green curtain at the bottom of the east balcony staircase - don’t forget to look behind it to view a light sensitive painting - For the west balcony, there are 18 steps leading to one landing space. There is a single handrail available. Please note the stairway is narrow and the steps are steep. - Please note the balcony areas cannot be accessed by lift but can be experienced via a virtual tour available on our website https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/lady-lever-art-gallery/virtual-tour FIRE ALARM If the fire alarm sounds, please follow staff instructions and ask for assistance if required.
