The University of Edinburgh Sport & Exercise Pleasance Sports Centre and Gym offers members access to a wide range of fitness and sporting facilities and activities. There are 10 separate gym spaces within the centre, as well squash courts, archery and rifle ranges and 2 multi-purpose sports halls. Our sport medicine centre, FASIC, is also located in the centre. We believe in making our facilities and services "Open to all" and strive to ensure our spaces are as accessible as possible. Please contact us with any specific needs you may have.

Can Do community review project review

Students from the Entry to Learning Level 2 course at Edinburgh College visited Edinburgh University as part of their Leonard Cheshire Can Do community review project. We had a tour around the facility looking at all the different sport and exercise activities that were on offer. We then had the chance to take part in an extremely enjoyable session on the climbing wall. Accessibility The Majority of the building is accessible for disabled users with several lifts in place. The building can be a bit confusing so keep an eye out for the directional signposts. Our tip for a group visit would be to contact the centre first and arrange your visit with the very capable staff! Overall we gave it 4.5 out of 5 and would definitely recommend a visit! Comments from the class were; “The staff made me feel safe and brave!” “A great place for active people.”

The entrance is located to the front of the building on a level paved surface and provides access to the Ground Floor reception. It can be accessed via a flight of paved steps or a ramp from the adjacent footpath. Steps leading to the entrance incorporate contrasting strips but do not incorporate handrails. The two stage ramp leading to the entrance incorporates a rest stop between each stage and a handrail to one side

There are numerous parking bays around The Pleasance but no free parking; all parking bays being permit or pay and display.

There is left hand lateral transfer space. The toilet within the accessible changing room has limited transfer space. There is good manoeuvring space. There are emergency pull chords. Doors open inward on the accessible toilet and slide on the accessible changing room. The widths of the accessible toilet doors are suitable for wheelchairs. There are suitable dropdown and support rails for transfer.
