Leith Theatre

We went to hear Sharon Van Etten last night - the venue was standing on the ground floor and open seating on the balcony, which is up 33 steps. No lift. The ground floor is flat access from the street but there’s nothing to help you see over the standing crowd if you’re sitting down, as was mentioned in the other review. Festival staff were polite but unable to help with access in any way. I gave it two stars because I surprised myself with being able to climb and descend 33 steps! I hope future work on the venue includes provision for people who can’t climb stairs or stand through an entire gig.

This is a beautiful venue in the heart of Leith, which has a wonderful, varied history. In short it closed in 1988 and reopened again in its sorry but well love state in 2016. So as you can imagine access is pity non-existent, I have visited a few times for some brilliant gigs, such as Mogwai, Joan as Policewoman and Young fathers. I have not put on a review as I know the venue is desperate for funding and once they get it I'm pretty sure accessibility will improve.
